How can I remove dust, marks or fingerprints from the surface of the filter?
I am not able to start the pump using the priming button.
The pre-filter lid doesn't close.

How can I remove dust, marks or fingerprints from the surface of the filter?
Use a soft cloth (micro-fiber 70% polyester and 30% polyamide) or the black protective sock that wraps the filter. Do not use paper, abrasive sponges, detergents or alcohol.

I am not able to start the pump using the priming button.
  1. Air entering into the intake circuit:
    1. Check that the telescopic intake stem and the intake cross rim assembly are correctly assembled and the O-rings are correctly positioned. Disassemble the parts and reassemble them again by applying a twisting movement.
    2. Check that the hoses are well inserted into the rim assembly and the ring nuts are properly tightened.
    3. Check that the hoses are well positioned into the AQUASTOP and the ring nuts are properly tightened.
    4. Check that no dirt is present on the red O-rings of the AQUASTOP.
  2. Check that the AQUASTOP valve is fully open (valve lever fully down).
  3. Check that there are no slacks or loops in the intake and output hoses.
  4. Check that the aquarium water level is not more than 15 cm below your aquarium rim.
  5. Check that the hose connected to the intake strainer is attached to the correct adaptor of the AQUASTOP (check that the water flow follows the direction of the arrows marked on the front of the AQUASTOP).
  6. Check that the white flaps on the underside of the priming chamber are not blocked by debris or foreign objects:
    1. Remove the mechanical pre-filter cartridge
    2. Remove the chemical cartridge
    3. Pushing the priming button repeatedly, check that the two white flaps inside the priming chamber move freely. If this is not the case, remove the cause of the blockage by means of a pencil, gently into the openings. (need picture)
  7. Check that the valves of the primer chamber are still seated properly so they swing freely. In case they are not, proceed as follows:
    1. Remove the mechanical pre-filter cartridge
    2. Remove the chemical cartridge
    3. By pressing the appropriate ribbed areas, remove the red valve support.
    4. Remove the valves gasket.
    5. Position the valves correctly.
    6. Re-assemble all parts. (need picture)
NOTES :
  • In order to work efficiently the priming button must be pushed all of the way down in fast sequence; otherwise the prime may not occur. If the installation necessitates slack or dips in the hoses, it may be necessary to use the priming button repeatedly.
  • Warning: the priming system works even if the filter canister gasket or the chemical cartridge is missing. Therefore, after starting the pump, verify that there are no leakages.

  1. AQUASTOP orientation is wrong, indicator arrows do not face front.
  2. The AQUASTOP release lever has not been lifted to a full upright position before inserting the AQUASTOP.

I have turned the lock nuts of the AQUASTOP or the Cross Rim assemblies so much that they have fully come off.
Replace the lock nuts by turning them clockwise so they screw back down onto the AQUASTOP or Rim Connectors.

I'm not able to pull out the mechanical pre-filter and chemical cartridges.
The knob has not been completely turned to the un-lock position. Be sure to turn the knob fully counter-clockwise to remove the cartridges. The power has not been removed from the filter causing suction on the cartridge. Make sure to remove the power before performing any maintenance procedures.

I'm not able to close the four metal lid fasteners.
  1. The cartridges' bayonets have not been inserted in the correct position.
  2. The cartridges have been inserted with the wrong orientation.
  3. Water level inside the filter has increased due to wrong operations, and this hinders cartridge closing.
  4. There is a foreign object inside the filter.
  5. The cartridges' cup got stuck because they have not been correctly installed. Remove the cartridges and repeat the operation.

I'm not able to close the four metal lid fasteners.
The filter head is not correctly oriented with respect to the filter body. Not all four metal lid fasteners are fully inside their seats. Assure that all the metal lid fasteners are simultaneously wide open before proceeding with filter head closing operation.

I'm not able to disengage the filter head from the filter canister.
Assure that all the four silver metal lid fasteners are simultaneously wide open. The presence of foreign objects could have generated an anomalous friction. Take off the filter head by simultaneously pulling the appropriate handles (there could be the need of another person helping you). After that, proceed with filter gasket cleaning.
Important: The motor head could get stuck if you try to remove it by pulling one side only. Remove the filter head by pulling with both hands on the proper grip points.

The mechanical cartridge clogs too early.
The mechanical cartridge is a high efficiency by-pass-free filter. For this reason everything that is captured by the filter remains trapped in it. The mechanical filter has been designed so that there is a water flow reduction of 15 l/h per day in a mature and average charged aquarium. An early clogging could be caused by:
  • Anomalous production of dirt in the aquarium. Clean the aquarium more frequently and remove the origins of dirt generation.
  • The cleaning of the mechanical cartridge is not efficacious. Clean the cartridge in the correct way, by removing the lid at the bottom and using the brush that comes with the unit. (for a better result we suggest rinsing the mechanical cartridge with warm water).

Air bubbles continuously come out from filter output.
  1. The filter evacuates the air entering through the intake: remove or relocate the origin of air.
  2. During normal operation, the filter may work with a light negative pressure inside, and it could suck air from the connection points. Check the correct assembly and cleanliness of the intake cross rim assembly and stem, AQUASTOP red O-rings, filter canister gasket and cartridges' O- rings.
  3. Filter progressive clogging increases the negative pressure inside the filter, which favours the separation of the gasses dissolved in water. These gases gather inside the filter, and are then expelled through filter outlet. Clean the mechanical pre-filter cartridge.

After switching off and on of the filter, the filter is On and the flow rate is zero or insufficient.
An air bubble could be trapped inside the impeller chamber. By acting on the priming button, the operation's conditions previous to the power being off are restored. If the mechanical pre-filter is very dirty (low flow), even the use of the priming button could not be sufficient to solve the problem. In this case clean the mechanical pre-filter cartridge.

After cleaning, max flow rate condition (fully white flow graph) is not restored.
The system measures the water flow by reading the electrical parameters of the pump, and it has been calibrated by referring to a standard application, i.e. intake and output hoses of the same length 1,5m, telescopic stem + strainer + regular cross rim device at intake, twin nozzles + regular cross rim device at output and AQUASTOP valve fully open. Different configurations may introduce different hydraulic circuit losses and consequently delay or accelerate the indication of flow reduction. A too early water flow reduction may be also caused by:
  1. Accidentally squeezed or collapsed hosing
  2. AQUASTOP valve lever not fully lowered
  3. Clogged hosing or cross rim assembly
  4. Solids, debris or bacterial mud, block water passage inside the filter or at pump outlet.
  5. The valves of the priming system are dirty or blocked
  6. The chemical cartridge is still inside the protective poly-bag
  7. Filtration media block pump inlet

When removing the filter head from the unit, water comes out from the metal locking levers
In order to avoid water spilling when cleaning, during normal operation, the filter unit is not completely full of water, but it maintains an air chamber underneath the filter head to keep water inside at such a level so that it does not overflow. During normal operations of cartridges opening or AQUASTOP disengagement, water level inside tends to rise. Wrong operations may cause water to spill and to gather inside the unit head. The cartridge cups also serve the purpose by removing some water from the unit during maintenance operation, and thus restoring the adequate water level. Wrong operations not to perform include:
  • Releasing, re-engaging the AQUASTOP and opening the AQUASTOP valves, the whole sequence more than 2 times without removing one of the cartridges or emptying the unit.
  • Closing the AQUASTOP valve, opening one of the cartridges, closing the cartridge and opening the AQUASTOP valve, the whole sequence more than 2 times consequently.
  • Removing one of the cartridges and pouring the content of the cartridge cup back into the unit.
  • Re-inserting the cartridge without having previously emptied the cartridge cup.
  • Re-inserting the cartridge too rapidly. (splash effect)
  • Removing one of the cartridges and opening the AQUASTOP valve lever.

There is water under filter canister feet.
  1. During filter cartridge maintenance, water has seeped into the gap between the motor base and the top shell and is siphoning between the filter canister layers.
  2. A gasket (probably that of the filter canister) or the chemical cartridge is missing.

The conductivity graph shows sudden drops.
The conductivity reading is only precise and stabilized after 24-48 hours of filter operation.Variations may be due to:
  • Toping off aquarium with clean water
  • Cleaning or maintenance operations, after which the reading is not accurate for 24hrs.
  • Sudden infiltration of air into the system.
  • Conductivity sensor pins have been cleaned the wrong way (do not clean conductivity metal pins with paper, detergents, cloth etc. Simply rinse them with clean water).
  • The mechanical cartridge is clogged.
